The course you’re considering purchasing or have already just purchased is a unicorn from the title to the end of the Actionary and everything in between. So, the first question is Why is ‘sex’ in the title?

1. Because the character to demonstrate the system must have a few radicals. The character for sex has just 2. What applies to a character of 2 radicals applies to one of 11 radicals.
2. The radicals must be common. The radicals for sex, BE, and CA, are common in hundreds of daily Asian words. (Asian – across the board B All Chinese languages, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, etc.)
3. The Bridges of those radicals must be able to produce many relevant English words. The Bridges BE and CA produce thousands of words.
4. To develop a Memory Jogger Sentence, the concept must resonate with all age groups: the high school senior, parents, the mid-Victorian, the upwardly/downwardly mobile young adult, and the smart Alec. The concept of sex is universal from the teenage years onward.
5. It must resonate with all races, religions, nationalities, and ethnic or cultural subgroups. No human group is exempt from the concept of sex.
6. And it doesn’t hurt if that character is an attention-getter. The word sex itself is magnetic because…well…it just is. But dealing with it doesn’t mean you’re coarse or a lowlife.

The second question is, What’s so special about this course? Why do you call it a unicorn?

1. It introduces a new method for learning Asian characters. You’ll no longer set the snooze alarm before sitting down to learn characters. You won’t be a passive passenger watching the world go by. You’ll actively involve yourself with the system in a personal way. You may even build your own Actionary along the way. And when you get the result you’re looking for, boy, does that feel good! 
2. I’ve studied numerous languages and am somewhat fluent in several. I’ve used them in many countries across the map, so I know what kind of vocabulary is needed beyond hello, my name is…, may I please have a menu, and where is the bank? But if you need a doctor because you have a urologic problem and your handy pocket dictionary doesn’t have the word for penis or vagina (and they don’t!), well, you can always use sign language and point.

I suppose publishers are afraid of being labeled tabloid, but I’m not because I’m a unicorn too. I’m self-publishing. I kowtow to no one. So, I decided I’d write something relevant and throw social conventions to the wind. The student/traveler today needs mature and, yes, vulgar information. It’s the world we live in.

But we need to distinguish between working vocabulary and recognition vocabulary. It’s not my desire, nor do I have the ability, to teach you how to swear like a sailor in Chinese. That’s working vocabulary. But you do need to know what others are saying. That’s recognition vocabulary. Do you think they’re hostile toward you? What are they saying about you? Are they making nice or are they laughing at you? Are they talking about everything else in the world that has nothing to do with you, or are you paranoid? You need real-life vocabulary.

I can and do give you a good start in that direction. If I had it to do over again, I’d start this course off with the following advice. Skip the first 29 (xxix) pages. Give them the once-over to see what’s there if and when you need it. Then read chapter 29.1 to learn why a course like this is necessary. Then blast off in Chapter 1.
